The Mt. Vernon Rams will venture away from home to challenge the Carbondale Terriers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Vernon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Mt. Vernon is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Mascoutah just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 6-5.

Danicah Tobin was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, Allie Sweeten made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Carbondale has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging four runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They fell 10-7 to Tolono Unity. The Terriers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Like Mt. Vernon, Carbondale also got a great game from a two-way player: Chloe Dryer. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. Dryer was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Sydney Tanner was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Ella Karayiannis, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Mt. Vernon suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 5-2. As for Carbondale, their record is now 5-5.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Mt. Vernon has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Carbondale struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mt. Vernon couldn't quite finish off Carbondale in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
