Scotty Young, Ryan (Denton, Texas)
The numbers just keep piling up for Ryan (Denton, Texas) quarterback Scotty Young.
In a 70-63 win over McKinney, Young threw for 550 yards and tied a Texas state record with eight touchdown passes. In just three games, the Texas Tech verbal commitment has piled up 1,172 yards through the air and 20 touchdown passes.
“I hate to sound complacent, but we’re kind of used to it," Ryan coach Joey Florence told MaxPreps.com over the weekend. "He is a great pocket passer. We’ve had five quarterbacks in the 10 years I’ve been here (three Division I signees) and he’s the best pocket passer.”
Young threw for 4,495 yards and 65 touchdowns as a junior.
Running back Mike Dyer of Little Rock Christian Academy (Little Rock, Ark.) also turned in a stock-raising performance with 340 yards and three touchdowns in a 44-42 win over Morrilton.
And keep an eye on Aliquippa, Pa., this season as a very special talent could be emerging in Hopewell running back Rushel Shell. Just a sophomore, Shell has 428 yards and eight touchdowns through two games.
