Softball Recap: Steele Canyon Starts Season with Win on the Road

Steele Canyon had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Mira Mesa Marauders 17-5. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Marauders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Hailey Trujillo was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing two bases while going 5-for-5. What's more, she posted four RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dannika Lakin, who scored four runs while going 2-for-5.

Mira Mesa dropped their record down to 0-5 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Steele Canyon will take on Mater Dei Catholic in a tournament on Saturday. As for Mira Mesa, they will be taking part in a tournament against Torrey Pines at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
