Nansemond-Suffolk Academy has won 13 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Greenbrier Christian Academy has won 13 straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. While Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's win against Nansemond River wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Saints narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Warriors 3-2.
Meanwhile, Greenbrier Christian Academy got the win against Atlantic Shores Christian on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-1. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Katelyn Balka made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, Greenbrier Christian Academy let Reagan Frank and Cora Smith run wild. Frank went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Smith went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles Smith has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Finck, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Greenbrier Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .395 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 20-1.
Everything went Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's way against Greenbrier Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Nansemond-Suffolk Academy made off with an 11-1 win.
