After both having extra time off, the Bethany Community Wolves and the Clover Garden School Grizzlies will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bethany Community is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Bethany Community after they put the first run on the board last Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of South Stokes by a score of 6-5.
Audrey Waddell put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Leah Denny was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Mattie Southard also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Clover Garden School's good fortune finally ran out last Thursday. They fell just short of River Mill by a score of 9-8.
Mackenzie Shepherd made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Clover Garden School's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 10-4. As for Bethany Community, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bethany Community hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Clover Garden School struggles in that department as they've averaged .461. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bethany Community took their win against Clover Garden School when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
