Kankakee Valley hasn't had much luck against Munster recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Kougars will take on the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Kankakee Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Kankakee Valley didn't have quite enough to beat Hanover Central and fell 6-5. The loss was the Kougars' first of the season.
Mallorie Rose was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Rose was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played.
Rose wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Hanger, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. That stolen base was Hanger's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Munster is ranked highly in their home state and on Thursday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Beecher. The Mustangs fell just short of the Bobcats by a score of 2-1.
Kaylee O'Connell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Caroline Wendlinger was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
Munster's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Kankakee Valley, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Kankakee Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Munster struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Kankakee Valley might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Munster in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Kougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
