Northwood and Irvine are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2022, but likely not for long. The Timberwolves will host the Vaqueros at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Northwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Northwood came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Rosary Academy, falling 11-3. The Timberwolves' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Natalie Keith made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Irvine). They never let Portola get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Tuesday. The Vaqueros haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Midori De Los Santos made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other pitching news, Carlee Lombardo looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, Irvine got a massive performance out of Harper Vandermolen, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Katie Liu was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Irvine hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive games.
Northwood's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-5-1. As for Irvine, their victory bumped their record up to 6-14.
Irvine's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Northwood has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. It's a different story for Irvine, though, as they've only averaged .352. Will they be able to contain Northwood's hitters?
Northwood got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March against Irvine by a conclusive 8-0 score. Do the Timberwolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vaqueros turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
