Two dominant backs in Omarion Youghbor and Marco Castro are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Gary West Side Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Kankakee Valley Kougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gary West Side is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
Last Thursday, Gary West Side sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 30-28 win over Calumet New Tech.
Gary West Side's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Guiseppe Moore, who rushed for 223 yards and two touchdowns, and Youghbor, who rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.2 yards per carry. Youghbor is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Kankakee Valley's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell to Munster 28-24. Kankakee Valley gained 55 more yards on the day, but it was Munster that made the best of use of them.
The losing side was boosted by Castro, who rushed for 320 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per carry. Castro was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards.
Gary West Side's victory lifted them to 6-3 while Kankakee Valley's loss dropped them down to 4-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Gary West Side has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 316.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Kankakee Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 178.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
