Stewarts Creek is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Tennessee's top teams: Smyrna, who was ranked 21st at the time (Stewarts Creek was ranked 20th). The Red Hawks were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Bulldogs on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Red Hawks, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Jadyn Brawley and Samya Sandifer were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Brawley pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Sandifer tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Brawley has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Brawley went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, while Sandifer went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs Sandifer has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Stewarts Creek got a big performance out of Kloe Quigle, who went 3-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelyn Stembridge, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one triple.
Stewarts Creek kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Rockvale didn't have quite enough to beat Lipscomb Academy on Thursday and fell 7-6.
Mallory Goates was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Lea Johnson was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double.
Stewarts Creek pushed their record up to 19-5-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Rockvale, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.
