There's no place like home for the Asheboro Blue Comets, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They strolled past North Davidson with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 68-54. Given Asheboro's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while North Davidson is ranked 207th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jerquarius Stanback was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 14 rebounds. Stanback is crushing the block category: he's posted at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Camden Walker was another key contributor, going 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points and 2 assists.
North Davidson's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Payton Eccles, who scored 15 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamauri Manuel, who scored 13 points along with five assists.
Asheboro's victory bumped their record up to 16-3. As for North Davidson, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Asheboro will square off against Ledford at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Asheboro's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 17 matchups. As for North Davidson, they will head out on the road to challenge Central Davidson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Davidson will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something North Davidson surely won't give up without a fight.
