Stearns had lost three games at home, but after bumping their record up to 7-6 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Greenville Lakers. Considering the Minutemen have won five matches by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Brady Brooker and Wiley Ward were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Brooker tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ward tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Stearns is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise. At bat, Brooker got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Ward went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Emerson Michaud was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Stearns' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Waite, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Stearns kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenville only managed six hits.
As for Greenville, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly ten runs.
On Greenville's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Mason, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That hit was Mason's first of the season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stearns will head out to square off against Lee Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Greenville, they will venture away from home to face off against Penquis Valley at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
