Baseball Recap: Rock Creek Takes a Loss

Rock Creek extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping them down to 7-13. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Tushka Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mustangs have suffered since March 16th.

Kenneth Ashby and Kelton Teal stepped up to the plate in a big way. Ashby got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Teal went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Ashby is becoming a predictor of Rock Creek's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 5-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was JW Edelen, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

As for Tushka, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games.

On Tushka's side, Jace Hastings looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Kale Graham was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Jake Langley was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

Coming up, Rock Creek will take on Colbert at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Leopards' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Tushka, they will square off against Allen at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.4 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
