Dalton Whittington put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
In other pitching news, Mecklenburg County got a good showing from Alexander Pulley, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
Back at the plate, Aaron Thompson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Halifax County suffered their closest defeat since April 1, 2025 on Monday. They fell just short of Patrick County by a score of 6-4. Comets fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Cougars since Monday.
Andrew Morgan made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Caiden Brooks, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Halifax County's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Mecklenburg County, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Mecklenburg County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Halifax County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Mecklenburg County suffered a grim 18-9 defeat to Halifax County in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Can the Phoenix avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
