Baseball Game Preview: Humphreys County Cowboys vs. Edwards Tigers

Humphreys County has gone a perfect 4-0 against Edwards recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cowboys are taking a road trip to challenge the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. Humphreys County is coming into the game hot, having won their last 11 games.

Humphreys County gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Winona as they made off with a 13-6 win. The result was nothing new for the Cowboys, who have now won 12 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Jaylon Horton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Javion Hughes, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Deshaun Brooks also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Edwards challenged Yazoo County on Tuesday. The Tigers came up short against the Panthers, falling 17-2.

Humphreys County pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Edwards, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Humphreys County took their victory against Edwards in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 15-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cowboys since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
