The Clearwater Tornadoes will face off against the Hollins Royals at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Clearwater is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Clearwater proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by seven) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over Dunedin.
Ty Woodring spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Jackson King was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in February.
Meanwhile, Hollins was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Pinellas Park. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Royals have suffered against the Patriots since April 11, 2019.
Hollins also got a good showing from Kyle Morrill, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time Morrill hasn't allowed a single hit since back in February.
On the hitting side, Aaron Anderson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Alain Esquivel, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Clearwater's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Hollins, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Clearwater has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hollins struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Clearwater came up short against Hollins in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 8-5. Will Clearwater have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
