The Hoehne Farmers will take on the Las Animas Trojans at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hoehne has given up an average of 11.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Hoehne is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game last Saturday. They lost 19-3 to Fort Morgan. That's two games in a row now that the Farmers have lost by exactly 16 runs.
Hoehne saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Sandoval, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Las Animas never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Calhan as they made off with a 10-0 win. Considering the Trojans have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Logan Servaes made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Servaes was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Las Animas let Jesus Lopez and Nicholas Duran run wild. Lopez scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Duran scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave Duran a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Travis Arrona, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Las Animas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calhan only posted an OBP of .240.
Hoehne's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Las Animas, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hoehne has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .502. However, it's not like Las Animas struggles in that department as they've averaged .502. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
