The Sandhills Classical Christian Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Antioch Christian Academy Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Sandhills Classical Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Sandhills Classical Christian gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Lee Christian by a score of 8-5.
The team relied heavily on John Tuepker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. Bernie Geffen was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Sandhills Classical Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lee Christian only posted an OBP of .417.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Antioch Christian Academy was a bit more limited in their match on Thursday. They fell just short of Christ the Cornerstone Academy by a score of 4-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Gators in their meetings with the Defenders: they've now lost five in a row.
Carson Phillips was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.
Phillips wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Bruce, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. That run marked the first that Bruce scored this season.
Antioch Christian Academy now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Sandhills Classical Christian, their record now sits at an identical 2-3.
Antioch Christian Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sandhills Classical Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. It's a different story for Antioch Christian Academy, though, as they've only averaged .233. Will they be able to contain Sandhills Classical Christian's hitters?
Sandhills Classical Christian came up short against Antioch Christian Academy when the teams last played last Friday, falling 14-11. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
