The Bremen Braves will head out on the road to face off against the Kankakee Kays at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Bremen on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Hillcrest out of the water with a 34-0 final score. Bremen pushed the score to 28-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Hillcrest had little chance of recovering from.
Bremen's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nehemiah Rogers led the charge by rushing for 99 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. London Blackmon was in the mix as well, providing Bremen with two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Hillcrest to a paltry 126 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Bremen's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out nine times before it was all said and done. It was a group effort, with three guys contributing.
Meanwhile, Kankakee put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Crete-Monee 42-0 at home. The result was nothing new for Kankakee, who have now won seven matches by 42 points or more so far this season.
Kankakee got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tony Phillips out in front who rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown on only six carries, and also picked up 43 receiving yards. James Stampley was another key contributor, gaining 129 total yards and four touchdowns.
Bremen now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Kankakee, their victory was their ninth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Bremen has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 152.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Kankakee struggles in that department as they've been even better at 267.8 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
