Basketball Recap: South Garner Comes Up Short

South Garner was the 67-54 winner over Willow Spring when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The South Garner Titans took a hard 57-41 fall against the Willow Spring Storm on Friday.

Despite the defeat, South Garner saw an underclassman step up: freshman Omarion Liles made all 6 shots he took for 13 points and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Liles has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Chase Hardy, who posted eight points in addition to ten boards and three steals.

Willow Spring had a senior duo take command as Grant Overman dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds and Brady Williams went 5 of 11 on his way to 13 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Overman has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 34 times he's played. Brandon Brooks was another key player, putting up seven points.

South Garner's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Willow Spring, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.

South Garner will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Corinth Holders at 7:00 p.m. Corinth Holders has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Willow Spring, they will square off against Cleveland at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cleveland will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Willow Spring surely won't give up without a fight.
