Texas high school football: Will Hammond, Logan Jenkins top state passing yardage leaders

Will Hammond of Hutto and Logan Jenkins of Collinsville top the list of passing yardage leaders in Texas according to statistics submitted to MaxPreps.

Hammond is averaging over 450 yards a game through the air for Hutto for a total of 1,351 yards with 12 touchdowns. The 6-foot-2 threw for 719 yards two weeks ago in an 82-80 loss to Liberty Hill. He also has 243 yards and eight TDs on the ground.

On pace to surpass 9,500 career passing yards, Jenkins is a threat to throw for 4,000 yards this fall after completing nearly 85 percent of his passes through three games for 1,171 yards and 15 touchdowns for 3-0 Collinsville.

Jenkins, a 5-10 senior, has reached 400 yards twice this fall, including a season-high 463 yards and five scores in a 51-14 win over Blue Ridge on Sept. 1.

Hudson Hutcheson of Frenship (Wolfforth), Atzel Chavez Jr. of United (Laredo), Braden McIntire of Boyd and Braxton Roberts of Panther Creek (Frisco) are the state's only other signal callers to reach 1,000 yards so far in 2023.
