Basketball Recap: Caprock Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Ethan Holt and Tristin Bird

Caprock Academy lost against Vail Mountain back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Caprock Academy Eagles fell just short of the Vail Mountain Gore Rangers by a score of 52-49. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Gore Rangers 14-10 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Caprock Academy had strong showings from Tristin Bird, who posted nine points along with seven boards and three steals, and Ethan Holt, who had ten points and three steals. Holt has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Justin Swank was another key player, putting up two points and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Caprock Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vail Mountain only racked up five assists.

It was another big night for Charlie Vidal, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 19 rebounds for Vail Mountain. With that strong performance, Vidal is now averaging an impressive 15.8 points per game. Another player making a difference was Drew Johnson, who earned nine points and four steals.

Caprock Academy now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Vail Mountain, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-2.

Caprock Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-34 defeat against Plateau Valley on the 14th. As for Vail Mountain, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 42-39 loss against Battle Mountain on the 14th.
