The Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Shelton 89-52. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wilcox-Hildreth in their matchups with Shelton: they've now lost six in a row.
Wilcox-Hildreth's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grayson Sheen, who scored 13 points. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Dagan Ortgiesen, who scored 12 points.
Even though they lost, Wilcox-Hildreth were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shelton only racked up 21 assists.
Leading Shelton to victory were Ashton Simmons and Riley Bombeck. Simmons scored 27 points along with three steals, while Bombeck scored 23 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists. The game was Simmons' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ben Myers, who scored ten points.
Wilcox-Hildreth's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Shelton, they pushed their record up to 8-0 with that victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.
Wilcox-Hildreth and Hampton will round out the year against one another at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Hampton is ranked 229th, while Wilcox-Hildreth is ranked 249th). As for Shelton, they will take on Sandhills/Thedford at 2:45 p.m. on Friday.
