Jackson South Side is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Monday. It'll be Northside v. Southside when they and the Jackson North Side Indians meet at 5:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Monday, Jackson South Side earned a 12-8 win over Battle Ground Academy. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hawks.

The team relied heavily on Trent Stewart, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Corbin Fesmire, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Jackson North Side, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over West Carroll on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won three matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Cross Burgess was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Jackson North Side: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Zaterrious Coman was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. That hit marked the first that he got this season. Another player making a difference was George Starr, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Jackson North Side kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Jackson North Side is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. Jackson South Side's victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Jackson South Side took their win against Jackson North Side in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1. Does Jackson South Side have another victory up their sleeve, or will Jackson North Side turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
