Leland and Willow Glen are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Chargers will welcome the Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for Leland: they have been struggling with six straight losses at home, while Willow Glen has snatched up ten consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
Leland is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They walked away with a 13-10 victory over Leigh on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Chargers needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Leland got a massive performance out of Ella Fergason, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs Fergason has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kira Yoshioka-Gutierrez, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Leland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Willow Glen made easy work of Santa Teresa on Tuesday and carried off a 9-3 win. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Catalina Medina made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Medina was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Willow Glen let Elizabeth Dilbeck and Haley Ocumen run wild. Dilbeck went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Ocumen got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Lea Crawford was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Leland's victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Willow Glen, their win bumped their record up to 21-0.
Leland couldn't quite get it done against Willow Glen when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
