With a playoff win on the line, Armstrong (Kennedy) rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against the Thomas Jefferson Vikings by a score of 20-13. The Wildcats' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Armstrong (Kennedy)'s win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Anthony Hansom, who threw for 142 yards and one TD on only 13 passes, and also rushed for 38 yards. Shadarus Pickett was another key back, rushing for 56 yards and one score.
Armstrong (Kennedy) didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Thomas Jefferson to a completion percentage of just 40.9%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from four players: Ronald Jackson, Teon Roane, Aladin Simms, and Nazir Adams, who each logged one passes deflected. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Armstrong (Kennedy); they were averaging 64.9%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three contests they've fallen to only 64.9%.
Armstrong (Kennedy)'s defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. Devon Epps was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Epps is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. Armstrong (Kennedy) got some further help from Donzell Jones-Teal: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).
When it comes to explaining why Thomas Jefferson lost, don't look at Daeron Ferguson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 145 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Isaiah Harris also helped out with an impressive 81 receiving yards.
Armstrong (Kennedy)'s victory bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Thomas Jefferson, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.
Coming up, Armstrong (Kennedy) will challenge Poquoson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Islanders have now posted at least 31 points in their last four games. Thomas Jefferson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
