After three games on the road, Elkhorn is heading back home. They will take on the Bennington Badgers at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Saturday, Elkhorn faced Crete in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Elkhorn suffered a tough 85-63 loss at the hands of Crete. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Thursday (59), Elkhorn still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Elkhorn got a solid performance out of Colin Comstock, who scored 29 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Comstock has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Nixon Farmer, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Bennington came up short against Norris on Friday and fell 68-59. While losing is never fun, Bennington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Norris is ranked second).
Elkhorn's defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-2. As for Bennington, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.
Things could have been worse for Elkhorn, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-41 loss to Bennington in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Elkhorn, Trey Bird (who scored 33 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
