The Foothill Knights will head out on the road to take on the Yorba Linda Mustangs at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
On Tuesday, Foothill came up short against Troy and fell 7-3.
Violet Bonnet and Rodriguez Haley stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bonnet went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Haley scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Yorba Linda). Everything went their way against Crean Lutheran on Tuesday as they made off with a 25-1 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Mustangs with their most commanding win of the season.
Samantha Cook and Sydney Chirco were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Cook struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Chirco tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cook has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Cook went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Chirco scored a run while going 1-for-1. Those two runs gave Cook a new career-high.
In other batting news, Liliya Cartledge was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalia Wojtuszewski, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and one stolen base.
Yorba Linda always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Foothill's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-10. As for Yorba Linda, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Foothill's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Knights have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Yorba Linda, though, as they've been averaging only 0.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Foothill continue to outrun the ball?
Foothill might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Yorba Linda in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
