Dublin Scioto hasn't had much luck against Westerville North recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Irish will face off against the Warriors at 5:15 p.m. Dublin Scioto is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.5 runs per game this season.
Dublin Scioto took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over Big Walnut.
Big Walnut's batters probably weren't too happy with Avery Reynolds, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 13 Ks (she gave up three walks). Reynolds has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maria Wasko, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westerville North). They put the hurt on Worthington Kilbourne with a sharp 24-4 victory on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won seven in a row.
Mallory McLean spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Calista Bright was incredible, going 4-for-6 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (three). Emma Polovick was another key player, scoring four runs while going 4-for-5.
Westerville North was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Worthington Kilbourne only posted a batting average of .320.
Dublin Scioto's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Westerville North, their record now sits at 5-7.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dublin Scioto has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .520. However, it's not like Westerville North struggles in that department as they've averaged .513. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dublin Scioto might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Westerville North when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Irish avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
