West Linn is 9-1 against Tualatin since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Lions will take on the Timberwolves at 5:00 p.m. West Linn is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
West Linn will bounce into Monday's match after beating Oregon City, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Pioneers 2-1. The two-run effort marked the Lions' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Meadow Sanborn tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Emily Sakys was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tualatin). Everything went their way against Lakeridge on Friday as they made off with a 28-1 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Timberwolves considering their one-run performance the game before.
Reese Strode was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Strode was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
Tualatin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
West Linn has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Tualatin, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 12-10 record.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. West Linn has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. However, it's not like Tualatin struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Linn beat Tualatin 9-4 when the teams last played last Wednesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
