The Colorado Wolves will square off against the Sweetwater Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Sweetwater will be up against a hot Colorado squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Wolves blew past Eldorado 17-1 on Tuesday. Considering the Wolves have won 17 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Mia Obenhaus made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Bryanna Munoz and Aj Goodney did most of the damage at the plate: Munoz fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4, while Goodney went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Munoz has posted since back in March. Alyssa Wooddell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Colorado was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They are a perfect 16-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Sweetwater never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over Grape Creek. The Mustangs not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 1st.
Like Colorado, Sweetwater also got a great game from a two-way player: Kallie Scherwitz. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Scherwitz was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Sweetwater got a massive performance out of Milani Torres, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Lauren Biera, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.
Colorado's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-7-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for Sweetwater, their win bumped their record up to 10-13-1.
Colorado skirted past Sweetwater 7-6 in their previous meeting back in February of 2022. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
