Baseball Game Preview: Serena Huskers vs. Earlville Red Raiders

Serena is a perfect 8-0 against Earlville since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Huskers will take on the Red Raiders at 4:30 a.m. Serena will be strutting in after a win while Earlville will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Serena turned things around against Seneca on Saturday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over the Fighting Irish. The game was the first time the Huskers have beaten the Fighting Irish on their field since April 8, 2017.

Beau Raikes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over 6.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Earlville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Newark, falling 11-1. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Earlville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Serena, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-7.

Serena took their victory against Earlville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-3 score. Will the Huskers repeat their success, or do the Red Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
