The Pleasant Grove Eagles will take on the Sheldon Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Pleasant Grove is coming into the match hot, having won their last nine games.
Pleasant Grove is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over Lincoln.
Madeline Lawson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Shealynn Stinson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, Sheldon posted their closest win since April 12th on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out McClatchy 6-5.
Kwinci Brown was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. Brown was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nicole Camacho-Vasquez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Angelina Guzman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Pleasant Grove's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sheldon, their victory bumped their record up to 18-9-1.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pleasant Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Sheldon struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pleasant Grove beat Sheldon 8-5 in their previous matchup last Monday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
