Picayune extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 4 this week by beating Pearl River Central, 21-20. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Gautier moved up to 62 from 100 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 42-12 win over Long Beach helped the Gators improve their standing.
Picayune's dynamic duo of Preston Dedeaux and Daveon Greene proved tough for the Blue Devils to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Dedeaux threw for 62 yards and one touchdown and Greene had 62 yards receiving. Tanner Bryan helped Picayune's passing attack out by catching three balls for 39 yards.
Jake Eaker was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 19 carries, he ran for 138 yards as East Central beat Pearl River Central. Teammate Lavory Falks added to the ground attack by rushing for 101 yards.
Corey Vice made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Hornets lost to Moss Point. The senior racked up one sack.
The Bearcats' Thad Miller and Chad Cook have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Region 4 in both passing and receiving yards. Miller has thrown for 493 yards this season, while Cook, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 14 catches for 293 yards. Dedeaux from Picayune leads the league in rushing with 747 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Eric Collins's team takes on East Central. The Blue Devils' offense has recorded 157 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Marcus High's team has permitted only 211 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Maroon Tide take on Gautier. As it stands, Picayune is in first, while Chris Peterson's team is in fifth.
The Gators were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to fifth in the league. Earlier in the week, Gautier triumphed over Long Beach 42-12.
