Summit and Brentwood are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Spartans will face off against the Bruins at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Summit is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Summit was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Centennial on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 10-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Spartans considering their two-run performance the game before.
Addison Johnson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched.
At the plate, Anne Marie Richards was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Addyson Willingham, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Brentwood unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of Nolensville by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bruins have suffered against the Knights since April 4, 2023.
Marina Mason was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over 11 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with one stolen base.
In other batting news, Lila Driver was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Summit's record is now 20-14. As for Brentwood, their loss dropped their record down to 16-5.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Summit has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Brentwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
