The Crossroads Roadrunners will venture away from home to challenge the Hesperia Scorpions at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
Crossroads is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Redondo Union just ended the team's five-game winning streak last Wednesday. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sea Hawks.
Jake McCaffrey was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run and one double. Jesse Abrams was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Hesperia came out on top against Eastside last Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run fourth inning. The Scorpions were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Lions. Considering the Scorpions have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Dru Lona was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Brenden Ozaki looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Cameron Cole was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Jacob Castillo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Hesperia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastside only posted an OBP of .250.
Hesperia's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-12. As for Crossroads, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-9.
