While losing is never fun, Civic Memorial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 495th in Illinois, while Nelson County is ranked 214th in Kentucky).
Civic Memorial's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adam Ogden, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Piening, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Civic Memorial has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Nelson County, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Civic Memorial will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Gibault Catholic at 3:30 p.m. on December 28th. Nelson County will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Columbia at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Columbia will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
