After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Show Low, the Holbrook Roadrunners were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They skirted past Payson 40-37. That's another feather in the cap for Holbrook, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Holbrook was led to victory by Raelle Yazzie and Noheah Aberle. Yazzie scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Aberle scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Aberle has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played.
Payson's loss came despite strong showings from Grace Deschaaf and Mylee Redford. Deschaaf dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, while Redford scored eight points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Deschaaf has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Chloe Hancock, who scored five points.
Holbrook's win ended a eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 9-17. As for Payson, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-9 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holbrook's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. As for Payson, they and the Yellow Jackets will face off at 1:00 p.m. on February 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Blue Ridge has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
