The Staples Wreckers waltzed into Friday's matchup with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat St. Joseph 49-3 at home. Staples might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won four games by 39 points or more this season.
Caleb Smith had a dynamite game for Staples, rushing for 184 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per carry, and also throwing for 111 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Jarrett DeLuca, who rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries.
Staples' victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. As for St. Joseph, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Staples will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Greenwich at 10:00 a.m. on November 23rd. Greenwich will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line. St. Joseph will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Trumbull at 10:30 a.m. on November 23rd. Trumbull will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last.
