Softball Recap: Church Point Sets Scoring Season-High Against Lake Charles College Prep

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Church Point). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lake Charles College Prep Trailblazers a 19-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Bears, who have now won three contests in a row.

Ryleigh Hooks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Church Point got a massive performance out of Kylee Fruge, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Fruge a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Ava Ashbaugh, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Church Point always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .821. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Church Point's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-11-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Charles College Prep, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Church Point and Lake Charles College Prep could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Louisiana Rankings. The Bears will square off against Pine Prairie at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (139 vs. 8). Meanwhile, Lake Charles College Prep (ranked 323rd) will meet St. Louis Catholic (ranked 84th) at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
