The Wethersfield Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Newington Nor'easters at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wethersfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Connecticut Rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Nor'easters are ranked sixth).
Last Saturday, Wethersfield was the victim of a rough 57-36 defeat at the hands of the Cougars. Wethersfield has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Newington had just enough and edged the Titans out 46-44 on Monday.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newington to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bela Cucuta, who scored 20 points along with two steals. Hope Romanello was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds.
Wethersfield's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Newington, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Wethersfield, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 50-31 loss to the Nor'easters in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Wethersfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
