The West Trojans will take on the Lexington Eagles on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
West is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They put the hurt on Maypearl with a sharp 12-6 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.
West let Mabri Warren and Marlee Chase run wild. Warren went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Chase went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyla Shoppach, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 9-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, while Lexington put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Buffalo. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Bison. The win was nothing new for the Eagles as they're now sitting on four straight.
Jillian Herridge made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Herridge was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Kendall Gural was a standout: she went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Teal Brockenbush was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.
West's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-16-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Lexington, their record now sits at 19-7.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. However, it's not like Lexington struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West came out on top in a nail-biter against Lexington when the teams last played back in May of 2022, sneaking past 2-1. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
