Alba-Golden extended their winning streak to seven on Friday, bumping them up to 14-5. They walked away with an 8-3 win over the Big Sandy Wildcats. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-2 on Tuesday.
Tucker Samples made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Cooper Christian was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Easton Samples was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
As for Big Sandy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 12-5 Como-Pickton and 11-5 Como-Pickton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 71.3% over those games).
On Big Sandy's side, Daniel Pendley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits. Pendley has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Derrick Pendley was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Big Sandy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't).
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Alba-Golden is set to square off against their familiar foe Como-Pickton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Big Sandy will take on rival Cumby at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
