Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Guerin Catholic is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Braves will take on the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory pushed their score all the way to 65 last Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 71-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ben Davis. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game two weeks ago (64), Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory still had to take the loss.
Despite their loss, Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Evan Haywood, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 38.5% of Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Warren, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Guerin Catholic faced Cathedral in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Guerin Catholic pulled ahead with a 48-47 photo finish over Cathedral.
Guerin Catholic got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Bryson Cardinal out in front who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Cardinal is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Robert Sorensen, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Guerin Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 69.7 points per game. However, it's not like Guerin Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 55.7 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory came up short against Guerin Catholic in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, falling 58-45. Thankfully for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, Kamea Chandler (who scored 15 points along with seven assists and two steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
