Jefferson has gone 9-1 against Washington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Jefferson's pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so Washington's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Jefferson blew Martinsburg out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Martinsburg got their revenge. The Cougars fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 5-3. That makes it the first time this season the Cougars have let down their home crowd.
Jefferson got a good showing from Andrew Engle, who pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Engle has allowed since back in March.
At the plate, Cole Smith was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Washington hadn't done well against Loudoun Valley recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Patriots came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 6-3.
Sven Dupree spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on one hit and racked up seven Ks. He has become a key player for Washington: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ryan Kelly, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Landon Brady, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Washington's victory bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Jefferson, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 21-3.
Jefferson took their win against Washington in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 9-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
