Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory is a perfect 5-0 against Speedway since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Braves will square off against the Sparkplugs at 5:30 p.m. Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Speedway will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Braves put the hurt on Ben Davis with a sharp 17-4 win. The Braves not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 17, 2024 (when they won 15-2).
Ethan Norris made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other pitching news, Zane Hamblin looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory got a massive performance out of Andrew O'Brien, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits O'Brien has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Sobek, who went 3-for-4 with four runs and two stolen bases.
Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ben Davis struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, Speedway had to endure an eight-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lawrence Central on Friday, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Sparkplugs have posted since May 27, 2024.
Luke Chastain spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Colten Thompson, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lucas Devault, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Speedway picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-11-1. As for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory took their victory against Speedway in their previous meeting back in June of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Braves repeat their success, or do the Sparkplugs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
