Basketball Recap: Columbia's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Columbia entered their tilt with Purvis on Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Everything went their way against the Purvis Tornadoes as they made off with a 52-29 win. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 23 points or more this season.

Avyon Lewis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 7 of 10 on his way to 18 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Those 18 points gave him a new career-high. Christian Expose was another key player, putting up 13 points and four steals.

Columbia was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Purvis only racked up six assists.

Several Tornadoes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Judd Gipson, who posted 12 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Gipson, who went 5 for 8 en route to 10 points and five rebounds.

Columbia has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Purvis, they dropped their record down to 6-10 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Columbia has already played their next matchup (against Sumrall), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Purvis will face off against Lamar Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th.
