Even though the Joliet Central Steelmen scored an imposing 59 points on Tuesday, the Plainfield East Bengals still came out on top. Plainfield East sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 61-59 win over the Steelmen. That's another feather in the cap for Plainfield East, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Lexi Sepulveda was her usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Plainfield East's points. Anna Jenkins was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Plainfield East's win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-16. As for Joliet Central, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-19.
Plainfield East and the Cougars will face off at 6:30 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Plainfield South is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road. As for Joliet Central, they will face off against the Chargers at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Stagg presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Steelmen in Illinois (the Chargers are ranked 111th, while the Steelmen are ranked 372nd).
