After a string of six wins, the Mater Academy Charter Lions's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 65-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Coral Gables. Mater Academy Charter has struggled against Coral Gables recently, as their match on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Mater Academy Charter still got an impressive performance from Sebastian Tello, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Ethan Davis was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Gabriel Chang was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with six rebounds and two steals for Coral Gables. Chang is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Marcellis Williams, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Mater Academy Charter's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Coral Gables, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-6.
Mater Academy Charter will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Elite Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 20th. Elite Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mater Academy Charter in Florida (Elite Academy is ranked 134th, while Mater Academy Charter is ranked 271st). As for Coral Gables, they will head out on the road to face off against Southridge at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southridge has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
