The San Clemente Tritons had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They took down Capistrano Valley 35-18. Given San Clemente's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Capistrano Valley is ranked 90th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
San Clemente got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aiden Rubin out in front who rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries. Rubin was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards. Cole Herlean also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Capistrano Valley still got an impressive performance from Cash Moormann, who rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown.
San Clemente's win was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 7-3 Mission Viejo and 7-3 Torrey Pines (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 66% over those games). As for Capistrano Valley, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Clemente will take on Tesoro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Capistrano Valley, they will be playing at home against Mission Viejo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
