It was a good run, but the Cape Fear Colts unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Monday. They took a hard 70-53 fall against North Pitt.
When it comes to explaining why Cape Fear lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jayda Angel. Despite the final result, she scored 29 points along with seven assists and six steals. That was a full 54.7% of Cape Fear's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Kayia Starling was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three blocks and two steals.
Cape Fear's loss ended a 12-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-1. As for North Pitt, their win was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3.
Cape Fear won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Jack Britt at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Jack Britt will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Cape Fear is ranked 16th). As for North Pitt, they will head out on the road to square off against West Craven at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. West Craven is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
